Ceramics & Mold-Making
Designer & Fabricator: Ashlí Marino Watson
Materials: Ceramic clay | Glazes | Plaster molds
Methods: Hand building | Slip casting | Mold making | Glazing | Kiln firing
This body of work explores the relationship between material, form, and repetition through ceramic fabrication and mold-making processes. Developed through iterative studies in vessel geometry, surface, and proportion, the work investigates how molds can translate a singular form into a family of objects while allowing variation through material, glaze, and hand-finishing. The resulting vessels balance the precision of repeatable production with the subtle irregularities inherent to ceramic processes.
Scope:
Form development, ceramic prototyping, mold design and fabrication, slip casting, surface development, glazing, and kiln firing.
Methods:
Plaster mold making, ceramic forming, slip casting, hand finishing, glaze experimentation, and low-volume production.
